After years in political limbo, former Assemblywoman Fiona Ma is back, having been elected to the state Board of Equalization.

It’s not the biggest office, but you wouldn’t have known that from her swearing-in at the South Light Court at City Hall on Tuesday.

The whole back wall was decorated in gubernatorial blue. They had the flags, the uniformed honor guards and the national anthem. California Chief Justice Tani Gorre Cantil-Sakauye administered the oath of office. Mayor Ed Lee, state Controller Betty Yee and Treasurer John Chiang were all there.

Ma’s mentor, state Democratic Party Chairman John Burton, would have been there, but he’s not feeling all that well these days.
