A leader who has worked to bridge the gap between California's urban and agricultural communities, Fiona Ma, has earned the endorsement of the California Farm Bureau Federation in her bid for the State Board of Equalization. Ma seeks election in District 2, which stretches along the California coastline from Del Norte County to Santa Barbara.

Ma, D-San Francisco, represented the 12th Assembly District from 2006 through 2012. During that time, she served as a member of the Assembly Agriculture Committee and participated in dozens of agricultural tours in order to learn about California's diverse farms and ranches.

"Through her service in the Assembly, Fiona Ma has a deep understanding of the crucial role farms and ranches play in the California economy," California Farm Bureau President Paul Wenger said. "She recognizes how a strong agricultural economy leads to jobs and prosperity in both urban and rural regions of our state."

While in the Legislature, Ma sponsored bills to promote California-grown products, supported the Williamson Act farmland-conservation program, and supported federal estate tax legislation that would help farmers and ranchers pass family farms from one generation to the next.

"Fiona Ma's commitment to growing the California economy and her commitment to farmers and ranchers make her a great candidate for the State Board of Equalization," Wenger said. "All of California will benefit from her knowledge and expertise."

The California Farm Bureau Federation works to protect family farms and ranches on behalf of nearly 78,000 members statewide and as part of a nationwide network of more than 6.2 million Farm Bureau members.
